MEMBERS OF CONGRESS TO STAND WITH GUN VIOLENCE VICTIMS AS GUN LOBBY COMES TO TOWN

Congressional leaders to join gun violence victims and advocates for defiant press conference on Thursday, April 14, amid corporate gun lobby fly-in

WASHINGTON – This week, the National Shooting Sports Foundation heads to Washington, D.C., where executives associated with the Connecticut-based corporate gun lobby will meet with its followers in Congress to ensure the industry’s interests and profits remain a legislative priority over the safety of the American people. During this time, Congressional leaders who recognize the need to prevent gun violence, families of gun violence victims, and advocates will join the Newtown Action Alliance, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and Say It To Our Faces for a press conference, calling on Congress to advance sensible, popular legislation to curb the epidemic of gun violence that kills 90 Americans every day. They’ll urge politicians to finish the job of expanding Brady background checks to all gun sales, end special gun industry protections, and reinstate dedicated funding for the Centers for Disease Control to conduct gun violence research.

The Newtown Action Alliance (www.newtownaction.org) is a grassroots organization formed after the tragic shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School. It works to make America’s children, families, and all citizens safer through legislative and cultural change that will reduce gun violence.

The Brady Campaign and Center, united with the Million Mom March, is a national network of over 90 grassroots chapter affiliates mobilized to prevent gun violence at the community level. The network has played a vital role in expanding Brady background checks in the six states that have passed legislation since the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut and produced the largest national protest of gun violence in U.S. history – The Million Mom March, Mother’s Day 2000.

Say It To Our Faces is a grassroots group of 30,000 moms and dads, grandparents, aunts and uncles advocating for common sense gun legislation to stop the senseless deaths of hundreds of children every year.
